Mama bear and her three boys were rescued from being put down for the simple crime of breaking into a house. Seeing as how that is where the good food is, it is up to the humans to keep that from happening. These bears were just doing what bears are inclined to do.
By the way, Black Bears are not always black. In fact, at the time I type this, mama bear has gotten quite blonde.

This one was used for a 10 foot wide banner advertising the new name of the Conservation Society of California (formerly the East Bay Zoological Society). One banner placed by the entrance and another near the rides area.

The boys decided to explore the tree on their first day out in the exhibit. They, and mam, spend a considerable amount of time in the trees.
Celebrating their 1st birthday with birthday cake. Well, bear appropriate cake. Meaning it is made mostly out of sweet potatoes.
